05 Days/ 04 Nights

Open a treasure box of storybook castles, secret tunnels and enchanting gardens as we dedicate five days to England's exquisite South East. We'll see why Whitstable has been dubbed the 'Pearl of Kent' and discover the tales that make Canterbury the jewel in the county's crown.

Day 1 - London - Chartwell House - Hever Castle - Canterbury
Today we'll take the trail of statesmen and Tudors as we depart London and travel to Chartwell House. Many of us will know the public face of Sir Winston Churchill, but a chance to see inside Chartwell will give us a glimpse into his private home. From the library to the sitting room and study, this red stone manor is a time capsule brimming with insights into 1930s family life. When we've had a look around, it's onwards to Hever Castle, the fairytale childhood home of Anne Boleyn. The ornamental English rose gardens and the swan-filled lake are superb for strolling around. Tonight, we'll sit down to enjoy a welcome dinner together. Accommodation: Abode Hotel (or similar). Meals - Dinner

Day 2 - Canterbury - Whitstable - Canterbury
To begin the day, we'll visit the magnificent Canterbury Cathedral. At this UNESCO World Heritage Site – the oldest working church in England – we'll discover medieval ruins, the oak-roofed Chapter House and a staggering gothic nave. Then, we'll leave Canterbury for Whitstable, which is full of snug pubs, quaint shops and quirky alleyways. Here, you can trace the fishermen's catch from the pebble beach to the harbour market. After, we'll head to the Shepherd Neame Brewery in Faversham, where we'll be treated to a tour – and the chance to sample some award-winning beers. Later, the afternoon will be yours to do as you wish back in Canterbury. Accommodation: Abode Hotel (or similar). Meals - Breakfast

Day 3 - Canterbury - Tenterden - Bodiam Castle - Rye
We'll take a step back to the golden age of British transport today as we board the Tenterden Steam Railway, chugging through idyllic rural scenery in a classic carriage. When we reach Bodiam, we'll find ourselves deep in storybook territory. With soaring towers, an iron-studded wooden portcullis and an iconic moat, Bodiam Castle is every inch the archetypal English castle. While here, we'll climb spiral staircases, step onto the great hall's dais and look up to spot murder holes as we pass through the gatehouse. Our third and final destination of the day will be the charming market town of Rye, where we'll visit the Rye Heritage Centre. Accommodation: The Mermaid Inn (or similar). Meals - Breakfast

Day 4 - Rye - Dover - Rye
Today we'll dedicate some time to exploring Rye, strolling along cobbled lanes lined with timber-clad houses and experiencing the magic that inspired writers and artists such as Henry James and Paul Nash. After tracing the shoreline, we'll arrive at Dover Castle: the gateway to the English coast. This fortress boasts evocative interiors that tell centuries of historic tales, far-reaching views from the Great Tower and dark medieval tunnels with covert cannons every few paces. The afternoon will see us back in Rye, where some free time will allow for the chance to see more of the town before our farewell dinner together. Accommodation: The Mermaid Inn (or similar). Meals - Breakfast & Dinner

Day 5 - Rye - Sissinghurst - London
This morning we'll travel onwards to Battle, where we'll visit the historic Monastery. Then, we'll continue to Sissinghurst, where we'll find poet and writer Vita Sackville-West's famous gardens. When we've taken in their beauty, our tour will end back in London. Meals - Breakfast
