Day 2 Sat: London / Nairobi
Arrive in London Heathrow and connect with your flight to Nairobi this evening.
Day 3 Sun: Nairobi
Arrive in Nairobi, where you are welcomed and escorted to SAFARI PARK HOTEL & CASINO. This afternoon, visit the Karen Blixen Museum and Giraffe Manor for a view of the rare Rothschild giraffe. This evening, enjoy a welcome dinner at the Carnivore Restaurant. (D)
Day 4 Mon: Nairobi / Masai Mara National Reserve
Leaving Nairobi after breakfast, travel toward Kenya's fertile highlands and head down the Rift Escarpment on a road built by Italian prisoners of war during World War II. Look for the charming chapel they built at the foot of the escarpment. You'll pass the impressive Longonot earth satellite station as you head across the Valley to Narok. Then travel across acres of wheat and barley before you reach Masai Mara Game Reserve in time for lunch. Following lunch and a siesta, enjoy an afternoon game drive and return to the lodge as the sun sets. Overnight at the MARA SOPA LODGE. (BLD)
Day 5 Tue: Masai Mara Game Reserve
Take early morning and afternoon game drives. Masai Mara Game Reserve is the park of parks in Kenya. Its grass-carpeted, smooth hills, chocolate-colored Mara River waters with frolicking hippos, as well as the rich diversity of wildlife, fulfill the expectations of any visitor searching the African landscapes portrayed in motion pictures such as Out of Africa or Mogambo. Day 6 Wed: Masai Mara Game Reserve / Great Rift Valley / Lake Nakuru
Leaving Masai Mara Game Reserve after breakfast, travel across the “breadbasket” of Kenya, where acres of wheat and barley engulf the landscape as you head north to Narok, the district headquarters of this part of Maasailand. Continue across the vast plains on the floor of the Great Rift Valley, keeping an eye out for herds of giraffes and gazelles as you head up the Mau Escarpment before arriving at Lake Nakuru Lodge for lunch. The waters here are often colored a shimmering flamingo pink, from the thousands of beautiful birds that line its shores. After lunch, take an afternoon game drive in Nakuru National Park before continuing to Lake Naivasha or Lake Nakuru. Overnight at LAKE NAKURU LODGE / LAKE NAIVASHA SOPA LODGE. (BLD)
Day 7 Thu: Great Rift Valley / Amboseli National Reserve
After an early breakfast, depart with a picnic lunch and leave the Great Rift Valley behind. Continue heading south toward Amboseli National Park. Upon arrival, enjoy an afternoon game drive in the park en route to AMBOSELI SOPA LODGE. (BLD)
Day 8 Fri: Amboseli National Reserve
Take morning and afternoon game drives in Amboseli National Reserve, returning to the lodge as the sun sets. The reserve, formerly Amboseli National Park, located at the foot of Mount Kilimanjaro, Africa's highest mountain, is one of the most popular of Kenya's national parks. It covers only 151 square miles, but despite its small size and its fragile ecosystem, it supports a wide range of mammals, including well over 50 of the larger species, and over 400 species of birds. Day 9 Sat: Amboseli National Reserve / Lake Manyara National Park
After breakfast, travel to the Tanzania border post and then on to Arusha for lunch. After lunch, drive across the Masai Steppe to the Great Rift Valley. There, LAKE MANYARA SERENA SAFARI LODGE perches high on the rim overlooking the park below. (BLD)
Day 10 Sun: Lake Manyara National Park / Ngorongoro Crater
After breakfast, enjoy a game drive in Lake Manyara National Park, returning to the lodge for lunch. Following lunch, your journey continues northwest to Ngorongoro Park gate across the stunning, hilly countryside of Karatu and highlands filled with wheat and coffee plantations. Overnight at NGORONGORO FARM HOUSE LODGE. (BLD)
Day 11 Mon: Ngorongoro Crater
A highlight awaits this morning as you depart by 4WD vehicles to explore what is commonly referred to as the “world’s largest wildlife zoo.” Descend 2,000 feet through the early morning mists into Ngorongoro Crater for game viewing with a picnic lunch. This afternoon, visit a Masai village and return to the lodge in the late afternoon. (BLD)
Day 12 Tue: Ngorongoro / Nairobi / London
Depart Ngorongoro after breakfast, and drive back to Arusha, arriving in time for lunch. After lunch, you will continue by road to Nairobi. Enjoy dinner at a local restaurant before proceeding to the JKIA airport for your flight to London. (BLD)
Day 13 Wed: Arrive North America
Arrive home today eager to share your adventures in Kenya and Tanzania.
