Day
1 Sun: Iquitos
Upon arrival, a representative from Jungle Expeditions
will assist you as you board an air-conditioned bus.
Visit a craft market and enjoy a city tour of Iquitos
before heading to your ship. (LD)
Day 2 Mon: Amazon River / Ucayali River
Awaken on the majestic Amazon to an early morning
view of the surrounding tropical rain forest and a wide
variety of native birds, including jacanas, egrets and
carrion birds. After reaching the confluence of the
Ucayali and Marañon rivers, you will continue along the
left branch of the Ucayali River. After a lecture from
your guides about the vast Amazon culture, visit a town
of ribereños, a small group of people who live on the
banks of the rivers. (BLD)
Day 3 Tue: Ucayali River / Yanallpa
Start the day with a picnic breakfast, and then
board rapid excursion launches to explore tributary
streams in search of primates, sloths, iguanas, toucans
and many other exotic birds. Stop in a quiet spot to
enjoy your meal while pink and gray dolphins swim
curiously around your skiff. Later, try to catch piranha
and/or catfish in a nearby stream. After dinner, head
out in search of capybara, black caiman, poisonous frogs
and a variety of other species. (BLD)
Day 4 Wed: Ucayali River / Sapote River
Awaken on the Sapote River, one of the best-hidden
secrets of the Peruvian Amazon. Keep an eye out for
egrets, macaws, groups of capuchin and playful squirrel
monkeys. Enter the forest on a jungle hike to visit the
majestic Ceiba Kapok Tree, the king of the forest. After
exploring, you will have a picnic lunch below a Ficus
tree before returning to the ship. (BLD)
Day 5 Thu: Ucayali River / Marañon River
Spend part of the morning visiting a nearby
riverbank village, where you can bargain with local
residents who sell crafts made from natural forest
materials. After lunch, board excursion launches in
search of gigantic aquatic plants called “Victoria Regia.”
Stop on your way to meet a Jíbaro-Ashual shaman, who
will explain the use of his medicinal plants and perform
a health and good luck ceremony. (BLD)
Day 6 Fri: Marañon River / Natural Amazon Park
A morning walk along a winding path will take you to
a hanging bridge, allowing you to catch a glimpse of the
animal life that inhabits the upper reaches of the
tropical jungle. Present a tribute to the marvelous rain
forest by planting a tree in a spiritual ceremony.
Later, paddle native canoes in an enchanted lake where
all sorts of fish and water creatures live. In the
afternoon you will begin your return to Iquitos while
musicians among the crew provide the perfect atmosphere
for a farewell dinner. (BLD)
Day 7 Sat: Iquitos
Receive a very early wake up call for breakfast as
your happy voyage comes to an end with your arrival in
Iquitos at 5:00 a.m. Leave the ship and go directly to
the airport. Your flight for Lima is scheduled for 7:00
a.m. (B)
Important: Itinerary may vary depending on the
climate, seasons, water levels and the lifecycles of
local wildlife. Visits to local villages are carefully
planned in order to avoid having a negative impact on
local culture and identity.
