Day 1: Darwin - Katherine
We travel south via WWII airstrips to Adelaide
River, where we visit the Adelaide River War
Cemetery. Continue to Edith Falls, where you have
time for a refreshing swim (conditions permitting).
Travel to Katherine Gorge in Nitmiluk National Park.
After lunch join a scenic 2 hour cruise, where you
have the opportunity to see wildlife and prolific
bird life. Our tour of the first two gorges takes us
past sheer rock walls and all manner of flora and
fauna. A short walk to a waterhole for a refreshing
swim may be possible. Overnight at the PINE TREE
MOTEL. (L)
Day 2: Mataranka - Darwin
This morning journey to Mataranka, ‘Land of the
Never Never.’ Visit the unique rammed earth
constructed Territory Manor and watch barramundi
being fed. On arrival at Mataranka Homestead, we
take time to visit the replica of the original Elsey
Homestead, used in the filming of ‘We of the Never
Never.’ Take the beautiful palm lined walkway for a
swim in the famous thermal springs. Enjoy lunch at
Territory Manor before returning to Katherine at
approximately 2.00pm. There is time to explore
Katherine township before you commence the return
trip to Darwin later in the afternoon. An evening
stop is made at Adelaide River, where you may wish
to purchase some dinner (own expense). (L)
